In 2011 Yosemite Romance Writers created The Smooth Contest as a short story competition among members only. It was wonderfully successful and loads of fun, with Christina Gulke and Carrie Spencer winning the ultimate prizes (scroll down the page). For 2012 Yosemite Romance Writers is opening the contest to a wider audience. This time the competition is for an entry consisting of the first kiss scene. Start writing!

YRW's First Romance Writing Contest!

First Place went to Christina for "Every Bit of You" featuring a sexy British chef and his lady love, a short story both steamy hot and sweetly romantic. It dazzled the judges and left them hungry for more. Pun intended!

Second Place went to....

Christina Gulke

The girl is on a roll! "Eternal Embrace" left a lasting impression on the judges - LOL! Well deserved kudos to Christina. Watch out romance reading public, this upcoming writer is one to be aware of.

Third place went to our online member Carrie Spencer for "Stolen Kisses" about a roguish modern day Robin Hood whose talent at kissing lifted the spirits of a certain Maid Marian. Fabulous!

YRW's brand new, fun contest,
The Smooch
, where each year’s theme will change
to bring entertaining unpredictability to readers and judges alike, was a rousing success. A committee is already hard at work with plans for the second
The Smooch. Tentatively slated for unveiling later this year, YRW's second contest will be open to all RWA members everywhere! Be on the lookout for that.

YRW thanks contest judges Deb Salonen, Sharon Lathan, Diane Story, Joanne Lucas, and Donna O'Brien for reading and scoring the 1500-word short story entries. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.
